The 4 main purposes of meditation & it's amazing benefits for your life!

In my life, I found daily meditation to be necessary to function well on all levels. It is not just a spiritual aspect, but also physical & mental, where the body gets into a calming meditative relaxing state and the mind can rest. In general, at that moment, it is mind, soul and body, working in harmony.

I found out, that mostly, there are 4 main purposes for meditation, that can help you daily too:

1. Stillness

During meditation, it is mental emptiness, that allows you to be still within yourself. Many people tend to physically go into nature, which is great, or to take a vacation from their workspace or home, but with meditation, no travel is required. Also, it is not a place that we escape from and then return to (such as hectic workplace, or chaotic home), but at every moment of time, you can find a space to sit, stand or to lay down and close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. Of course, staying in the stillness, does not have to be for long, even 1 to 5 minutes, daily, will bring you a great benefits. If you have more time, great, but it is not necessary. Make it applicable to fit your lifestyle! Find our what works for you.

2. Awareness

Meditation helps you stay in the moment, as it is. Your awareness stays in stillness of the moment. If any negative thoughts come, just be aware and focus on your breathing. Breathe slowly in and out. Again, breathe slowly in and out. And slowly again...That will bring you into more awareness within your body, and all distracted thoughts will go away.

3. Alignment

Meditation helps you, most importantly, align with the one source of all things, no matter if you call it Spirit, Prana, Infinite Intelligence, God, Breath, Qi (in China), Energy, or you may heard other names.

It does not matter which religion you believe in or if you are non religious, or just spiritual. Again, find out what works for you, choose the name of the source energy, that best suits you.

"Actually, the infinite source energy in itself always contains all 3 aspects ( regardless of what name you may label it): Omnipresent (always available, here and now),Omniscient (all wise), Omnipotent (all powerful)."

When we tend to identify something, we tent to label it and give it a name, so use whatever name feels right for you. I call this energy God, my sister loves the term Energy, and each of my clients prefers different name as well. it does not matter the label, but you will know, it is one and the same thing. There is only one source, not two.

''In actuality, that infinite source energy is just a pure beautiful bright light, full of unconditional love, infinite wisdom and never ending forgiveness. That source energy, which is in the same measure in you, in other people and all things (animals, plants, physical objects), penetrating all time and space (unity of spirit and matter on all levels and though all space)" Zdenka Ramani

4. Clarity

Mediation also helps you feel clarity about your body and all other areas: if you may have any stress or pain, as well as clarity of thought. If you are busy already, maybe that is not the most effective way for you to live. By slowing down gaining clarity will make you more productive, because you will know what is important, what needs to be delegated, what is important, and what can wait for later. With meditation, you will gain more clarity and focus, that can be beneficial in every aspect of your life!

Important notes:

  • Mediation should always feel good. If you feel stressed or if you are still thinking negative thoughts, let them go, for that moment. If meditation does not feel right, you are not fully immersed in the moment. Learn to let go.

  • Meditation can be done at any position, you can stand, sit or lay down. If siting, your legs do not need to be crossed (which is the typical position), but find our what makes you feel relaxed. Find what works for you! Your body should be completely relaxed. (Sometimes I sit with my legs crossed, sometimes I do quick standing meditation, sometimes I lay down, etc. Use what feels right for you at that given time and moment.

  • With music or not, it does not matter either. I love to meditate outside on our balcony, but sometimes it can get noisy (cars passing by, people talking, etc.). It does not matter if your environment may be noisy at certain times or not. If it is, just tell yourself: These noises do not matter, they will only make me focus and go deeper, even more! With this intention, you are still aware of your surroundings, but fully immersed and relaxed at the same time. This way, no noises will disturb you in your relaxation, yet, you are fully aware (in case you need to open you eyes or attend to something important at any given time). So it does not matter if you live or work in busy environment, you can still do it. (just make sure the time allows for you to close your eyes for a moment and relax. Some of my clients do a mini meditation ( I do too) even for a few minutes, during the day as the day allows (waiting in line, etc.). There are pockets of time during the day, that you can use to your advantage and well-being as well.

Summary:

  • start meditating for a minute daily, and try to notice how you feel while you meditate (if you are doing it right, you will feel content, peaceful, and calm)

  • There is one energy, which is all 3 aspects: always available, all powerful, all wise

  • choose the name of this one source energy, that works for you that has least resistance. Each of us comes from a religious or other backgrounds, find what works for you, it will be easier to align yourself with that energy in your meditation to access more deeper levels of awareness, calmness and tranquility

  • do not forget to breathe, deeply and very slowly during meditation (not only it refreshes your body but it deepens your meditative state)

  • try to make it a daily practice and see how you feel, in one week, one month, one year....:)
